Barry Alan Jacob Design Director

Design Director

Barry Jacob has been immersed in architectural interior design since he graduated from the Southern California Institute of Architecture. SciArc is known for fostering new solutions and ‘poly-structured’ thinking, resulting in the creation of highly innovative design thinkers. Prior to graduation from SciArc, Barry studied industrial and environmental design at Parsons School of Design and CSU Long Beach.

He had ten  years of retail experience prior to joining DLE in 2001, beginning in fashion retail for BCBG. His focus was space planning, fixture and furnishing design, and construction administration. After working on the owners’ side, he took a position at Design Office, a southern California architectural design firm, where he was responsible for the project design  and management of all Max Studio stores.

With DL English Design, his work has focused on designing experiential retail interior spaces and creating compelling, ground-breaking prototypical designs for specialty food service retail- and entertainment-based environments. Barry has been intimately involved in all aspects of food service design and planning over his years at DLE, and he has wide-ranging expert knowledge of all aspects of our work. His design sensibility is forward thinking, always pushing for the next impactful approach, never resting into a comfort zone with what has already been done.
Travel has inspired his world outlook; conversations inspire his creative thought processes; and his surrounding environment inspires his work. Most recently he completed the design and construction of his home in Los Angeles called the Step House, which has been publicized for its hillside adaptation.
