Whole Foods founder John Mackey collaborates with D L English Design to realize Love.Life Nourish, a plant-based restaurant

DL English Design was selected by longtime client and collaborator John Mackey, founder of Whole Foods Markets, to design the space and guest experience for a new nationally branded three-part wellness concept.  Love.Life Nourish, the plant-based restaurant will, be the first element of the Love.Life experience, which combines the power of nourishing food, holistic medical care and wellness therapies from around the world to make lasting health and vitality attainable. The medical and wellness offerings that complement the restaurant are slated to open in early 2024.

We provided interior design and space planning; exterior branded architectural elements; furnishings design; environmental graphic design; design, fabrication and installation of custom millwork and communal seating, murals and specialty finishes; procured and installed furnishings for exterior and interior seating areas, and project management.

The design concept for the new 5,557 SF 200 seat restaurant plays on the brand core value that ‘food heals’. The space has an intense program, which includes: all-day juice and coffee bar, a full-service bar and dining room, a private dining room, a teaching kitchen, outside dining, and a meal subscription program. The interiors reflect a plant-based color palette of caramels, sages, rosemary, lemon, orange, and the element essential to all – water. The space of upscale comfort is warmly modern, colorful, and playful with a hint of residential sensibility. “The interior spaces contrast with the hard edge, industrial surroundings of Culver City, while capturing the energy and excitement of the neighborhood through strong color and movement. The casual elegance of the design is a respite to the jagged city of tech and film, allowing for a space where intimate, or group gatherings can occur in ease away from the bustle of streets beyond.”
